When he was cursed and turned into such a creature, surely the poor Kengo had thought it to be the strangest event that had happened and would ever happen in his entire life. And that wasn't entirely wrong— But meeting a sentient video game character while playing what appeared to be a fairly regular and cute visual novel? Surely that ranked as a close second.
And thank god, he had not deleted her...! She could only assume he had protected her file out of love. But was this really the truth? Had he not deleted Monika out of sympathy and love for her, or out of absolute ignorance as to how to mess with files on a computer? The world might never know. Even so, communications were incredibly limited, with the game interface broken as it was...
Maybe she really wasn't sentient at all? Maybe she was just part of the game. Wouldn't be the first time someone had done experiments with breaking the fourth-wall for horror in a game. Even though the way she never repeated the same lines and had managed to get his name out of the computer was really kind of pushing it...
But then, on a fine day... The computer crashed. And there was a wild Monika who had appeared right in the middle of the room, sitting on the bed. Success! At long last, one of her experiments to escape the game had worked!
And she looked super excited. She had done it! Now she just needed to find her prince charming, the ray of light who had given her the strength to go on even when all hope had been lost, the love of her life: ]
Kengo?
[ She called out. Oh god, she knew nothing about him, now that she thought about it. What if he was a creepy seventy-years old man? No, no. Gotta stay positive! ]
Honestly Kengo went through a real rollercoaster of emotions playing the game. At one point he did indeed hate Monika for beeing the apparent mastermind behind everyone's suffering and some of those jumpscares really got to him to the point that he was very grateful he was not in a human body anymore. That being said near the end he started thinking about things from a different perspective and reading between the lines. Which eventually made him more sympathetic towards Monika. Especially after the reveal that she never ACTUALLY hated any of the girls.
And maybe he had cheated and watched the alternative ending if people did delete her file and quickly decided that he was not a fan of that route.
That being said maybe his own emotional investment had somehow worn down the walls between the reality and the game. It was as good an explanation as any for him suddenly hearing an all too familiar voice while he was in the kitchen preparing a pretty decently sized lunch.
"W-Wha?" A storm of clattering erupted as he dropped the pan then quickly grabbed it again while all his other tentacles dropped what they were holding in shock because that voice should not sound nearly as real life like as it sounded right now.
Upon hearing the clattering, Monika giggled. Oh, he had to be so surprised to hear her, she could just imagine the look of surprise on his face! He had to be so confused and wondering if he had heard it right. It was super adorable. And by the sound of the things that had dropped, he was a cook! Men who could cook were so rare and so much more sensible. She really had fallen for the best person ever, huh?
She stood up and dusted off her attire. She had to look her absolute best, he'd never seen her in the flesh after all. It was very different than having to speak and look at a static 2D image all the time. She approached the door and stood right behind it, ready to be the first thing he'd see upon opening it. She closed her eyes and opened her arms wide...
"Honey, I'm hooooome~!"
She would speak upon hearing the door open. Eyes still closed of course, so she certainly was in for a surprise.
This...Kengo was clearly hearing things. That was what he told himself before moving to find the source of this sudden greeting he had not accounted for. So after making sure nothing would be off the cooking stove just yet, Kengo finally made his way out of the room. Only to literally bump up against Monica's leg. He then peered up and froze before coughing and looking away.
"M-Monika!? It's really you! But how did-!?" Kengo reacted quite normally all things considered. Normally while avoiding several glaring issues. Like why he was just the size of a soccer ball and slithering along the floor with small stubby tentacles for motion and body language given the huge single eye on the center of his body.
She opened her eyes and noticed there was... No one? Wait, but she was fairly sure the voice had come from just before her? Was she dreamed and she was still in the game...? What was the meaning of this?!
"...?"
And then she looked down and-
"...?!"
What... What was that? A magical girl familiar? A video game mascot? And the voice had come from him...? Clearly he knew who she was. So that could only mean... No, it couldn't be right. This was the real world. Not some weird video game.
If not for his transformation he'd think he was dreaming. But after losing your human form from just peeking in on a magic princess summoning her familiar, you tend to become far more open minded so having a character from a video game appear in real life was nowhere near as mind blowing.
No what he felt right now was awkwardness since he was in this form now which no doubt would be anything but what Monika had expected.
"Y-Yeah I am Kengo. I'd say surprise but you already look plenty surprised. Uhm it's nice to see you in the flesh I will admit. Sorry About the truth being a little less perfect on my side of things."
He really was nothing like she had expected...! How was this even possible?! This was the real world, not a video game! And everything in his room seemed to be designed for human comfort. Had he been transformed into this creature? That was the most logical conclusion.
She rushed to him and picked him up, only to give him a big and warm hug. It didn't matter what he looked like! Kengo was Kengo and that was all that mattered.
"I understand why you were playing such a cheesy romance game now... It can't be easy..." It was so sad! His life must have been hard. "But I'm here now, so everything will be alright!"
He did not have time to even try to dodge her suddenly scooping up in her arms. Mostly since he was watching her reaction and expecting disappointment or disgust at her fantasized dear Player being something that wasn't human.
Yet she was hugging him now even if under a bit of a misunderstanding but he could elaborate on that a little later. Especially being pulled into her chest like that. He did not want to get too excited and have one of his many limbs act up and ruin everything.
"T-Thanks. I'm uhm really glad to see you made it out. Kinda wish I could have helped more..." This was a little awkward but also so very pleasant. She smelled well very nice as far as he was concerned and her chest was soft and warm and fat too tempting to just nuzzle into. Maybe he would get away with it being cute as he is but he didn't want to take that chance.
She smiled, holding him more tightly. Of course he wished he could have done more. But he had done so much already! Well, maybe it wasn't immediately obvious... After all, from his perspective she had been stuck in that game forever, with no real mean to communicate. But just knowing he was listening to her, knowing he was there for her? That meant the world!
She headed towards his bed and seated herself down, before setting him down upon her lap. Goodness, he really was small... She wondered what exactly had happened to him.
"We have so much to tell each other..." She placed a hand on his head (which was his whole body really) and smiled sweetly, closing her eyes. "Sometimes love stories have happy endings, huh?"
Kengo chuckled bashfully and even seemed to do the equivalent of scratching the back of his head with one of the tentacles as if he'd would have done with his human body originally. Some old habits like that never really went away. WHy would they when they were harmless in the end?
"Yeah I guess we do. Though is there anything in particular you would like to do or need? I know I came across as pretty smooth in the game but I'm gonna be honest I've uh never...been close to a girl before..." That was so embarrassing to admit but he didn't want to disappoint Monika. Not after all she'd been through.
He kept getting cuter and cuter. Not close to a girl, huh...? That was weird. Prior to her epiphany, she'd probably have been severely weirded out and more than a tad uncomfortable. She'd really been the picture of a "normal" girl with perfectionism and stress issues. And well, while she was still something of a perfectionist, she wasn't weirded out at all.
"There is something I like and need..." She marked a dramatic pause. "And that's you~!"
She gently took a hold of him once him and brought him to eye level, smiling sweetly.
"But what's happened to you? You clearly weren't born like that..."
Maybe it was like the grand fairy tale classic: the noble hero is transformed into a frog, and he needs a maiden's kiss born from true love to be returned to his true form! If so... Well, that's a bit early for their first kiss really. But if that's to save him, that's a ""sacrifice"" she's willing to make.
Oh Oh wow she actually said those words to him right on the spot. Kengo had no chance to hide the furious blush and the giddy smile before he coughed to clear his throat and answer her other question. Also seeing her smiling at him like that from so close was so risky for his poor heart. At least he was pretty sure this body still had a heart. He could feel the sensation anyway.
"Yeah that's...another wild story made even wilder by the fact that this didn't happen inside of a game. But to put it simply I went back to school after hours since I forgot something in my desk. On my way to the classroom I noticed a flash of light from one of the classrooms next to mine so I decided to go and take a look. Only to see one of my classmates in the middle of a glowing circle like you'd see in fantasy games.
Last thing I remember was a giant flash of light and then the world went white and when I woke up...I was like this with one princess from a foreign world apologizing to me over and over for getting me caught up in her familiar summoning."
To say this did sound like a fantasy game was an understatement. But did it really matter if he was here with her? Living in a fake world didn't sound as bad, if this world was huge and not a looping game. If she was with the one she loved. So she wasn't going to question things too much, not for the time being anyway.
Something he said caught her attention though, and caused her smile to fade.
"A princess from another world...?"
Is there a delete button in this reality? Now now, Monika would never hurt someone who is actually alive and does exist! But that doesn't mean she doesn't have some serious jealousy issues, as he saw first-hand in the game.
Oh boy. Luckily going through her game (more like prison) had taught Kengo to see those signs coming and he quickly moved to elaborate further.
"There was but she left due to something happening in her homeland. She kept apologizing for not being able to fix my body but I got used to it in the end so it's not that big of a deal." He did not have any particular strong feelings for her either.
"Might be a monstrous body but you couldn't believe how handy it is to be able to grow another limb whenever you need to do something more.
"Oh! What a mean princess... She got you into this mess and then abandoned you?"
The jealousy had subsided, but she'd definitely made the delete list had she been a video game character. Seriously... The least she could have done is take responsibility for her mistake!
"I'm not abandoning you." She comforted him but then marked a pause. "G-Grow limbs?"
She looked a bit weirded out. Just a bit. Gosh, it was getting worse and worse by the second. What had that princess done to him? She smiled a bit sadly at him, but kept him close nonetheless. In fact-
"You know, maybe what you need is a maiden's kiss~ Ahaha! Imagine if you suddenly turned into a fairytale prince!"
What if taking responsibility had been to become his lover and provider of sustenance? Since there was THAT minor issue. HE could eat normal food but there was a certain method of feeding that was far more effective. One that fully took advantage of his new body and its capabilities.
"Y-Yeah I can show you if you really want to see. It doesn't hurt in any way for me though they do come out a bit slimy for the first minute or so." Honestly he was too worried about that. Instead he decided to move on with her sudden suggestion.
"Not exactly a frog but I'm not against trying it. Regardless if it works or not." Geting to kiss Monika so soon was making him understandably giddy.
Slimy... That sounded kinda icky, if she had to be honest. But she didn't hold it against him, that wasn't his fault in the least! It was that vile princess... Thank goodness she wasn't anywhere to be seen, or she'd have some very very harsh words for her. But no matter, he seemed to be okay with the kiss, so—
"Alrighty~!"
With that said, she stopped hugging him and instead brought him to eye level with her. He looked really adorable like that... But maybe, just maybe the "magic" would work?
"It's my first kiss, you know. I won't do the blushing and prude act I did that one time in the game..." She tilted her head. "But that's still a bit embarrassing, ahaha. So you better close your eyes!"
on Kengo's side he was just immensely relieved the princess had left since the last thing he wanted was for Monika to go insane in the real world too. He'd rather she be happy and if he could help make that happen then al the better.
His single eye looked at her and somehow managed to appear sheepish since she was so close to his ...body? Face? It was hard to make that distinction with his new body.
"I wish I didn't have to but sure I will." Kengo gave a nod and sure enough closed his eyes for Monika waiting for the feel of her lips to fall on him or his."
There was no way she'd go insane...! Probably. She was no longer alone, she was no longer trapped in a tiny world, she was no longer suffering that nightmarish void whenever the game was turned off. Sure she could get super jealous, but murderous jealous? That was all behind her, there was nothing to mentally destabilize and break her now.
So she smiled and brought him closer and closer to her lips... Before finally placing a gentle and sweet kiss on him. Was that his mouth? She wasn't sure. It didn't really feel like a real kiss since he, well. Couldn't kiss her back. But it was still a first, wasn't it?
After a brief moment she pulled back, smiling sweetly and deviously. Had her charming prince turned back to his real form? If not, that was okay. She'd love him just the way he was!
Better safe than sorry. Kengo knew she'd been through enough so she deserved the happiness that was now so close within reach. Though sadly her hopes of his transformation being undone with a kiss were cruelly shattered by reality. So when she opened her eyes again she would see a very apologetic single eyes stare up at her.
"Guess this is one curse that's not so easy to break huh. I'm sorry, Monika..."
It was a bit disappointing, but how could she ever blame him for the result? He hadn't done anything wrong! She smiled at him and immediately shook her head.
"Why are you sorry? That vile and cruel princess is the one who ought to apologize!"
And she proceeded by hugging him once more.
"I don't love you any less just because you look this way, you know?"
Oh geez he hoped for that princess' sake she completely forgot about him and never came back or else he'd have to use all his new limbs to restrain Monika. Which was an aluring proposition to his new beast body and mind but one he did not want to linger on for too long.
"I just wish I could give you the welcome you deserve after finally making it out. Though I guess I can start with cooking something up real quick. Having as many arms as you want really helps with efficiency in the kitchen you know." Among other things. He just wanted to point out the benefits of this form so that they could move off of the topic of his curse.
Would that be enough to even restrain her...? Monika was ressourceful! And excessively defensive of the ones she loves. More so when said person is her boyfriend. Because he's her boyfriend, even though they may not have spoken the words per se.
"Awww." She looked at him and shook her head. "You did give me an amazing welcome."
She held him close against him once more. Right, best not to talk about his curse any more. He was adorable regardless of the form and she couldn't ask for more! He'd showered her with love, wasn't that enough?
"I'm a terrible cook, so that's a positive ahaha! But remember though I'm a vegetarian, so you gotta avoid meat in my meals~"
She may be resourceful but he could grow enough tentacles to cover the entire room from wall to floor to ceiling in the stuff. His body really defied all laws of mass and physics now. One of hte many benefits of this accident and now that he had someone who loved him unconditionally, that removed another big misgiving.
"I remember. Stir fry sound good or should I just whip up a queen sized salad instead~"
She wasn't even mentioning his limbs any more. Nope, she didn't want him to feel bad about it for even a moment! Of course, she'd make research on ways to cure him- If she could cross into the real world, surely he could be cured! But that wasn't because she didn't accept him as he was. It was more out of concern for his safety.
"On my hand, I can probably handle cleaning up things around... Gosh, people are going to wonder where I came from, huh? I probably should get started on making a fake ID, ahaha!"
" I mean that's fine I was just trying to figure out what you wanted right now. After all you just showed up in the real world." HE wanted to make her something special after all. As for breaking the curse he really hoped she wouldn't do anything extreme to make that happen. Yeah it was scary at first but by now he had gotten kind of used to it. There was clear benefits after all.
"Oh god you're right. I don't have any kind of connections that could help with that either." that was troubling since getting fake documents would involve interacting with elements of the underworld and frankly he would rather not see Monika do that. Not because he didn't trust he but because he wanted to keep her safe from the uglier aspects of reality.
Lo, his worst fears are immediately materialized. As if a few Yakuza scared her! Well, she wouldn't have to go that far. But she was pretty good at hacking and in modern times, that was an invaluable skill, right?
"I can probably hack into governmental database and set something up for myself. If not, I'll just get in touch with people who can forge IDs and buy their services with my hacking skills."
It's unclear whether she's naive or determined. Probably a mixture of both.
Common sense is not so common when you were a scripted character in a meta commentary visual novel it seemed. Kengo immediately tensed up.
"H-Hacking skills? Are you sure? what if you get caught!" After all hacking into government databases is different from hacking an indie game. At least that's what he thought if one were to think logically.
Here she had been in her Underworld, waiting for Ritsuka to summon her. She'd put on her most elegant and proper dress, she rehearsed a grandiose introduction so she would come off as the most charismatic and perfect of all goddesses...! And she had indeed been summoned. But it wasn't to Chaldea, and there was no Ritsuka in sight!
Where is she, in fact? Was this Earth...? She barely knew anything about the surface world, but as far as she could tell, it looked close enough to what she'd seen in her books. What didn't look like her books though were the weird creatures gathering around her. One in particular going "Pika Pika!"
It's cute but... She can't let her guard down! She must resist the urge of petting it, what if it's a ploy by a dastardly villain to get her to lower her guard? Okay, no panic. Deep breathes. For one: making her spear of light appear so she can defend herself if needed. Okay, done. For two: ]
I-Is anyone here?!
[ Besides those weird creatures? She... She's probably the first goddess in the history of the world who got lost on the way to her summoning spot! What a tragic tragedy... ]
[it's totally fine, sorry for novel and the delay on my end, it came while I was at work]
[For a high-ranking Team Rocket member, who'd climbed up the ranks through a combination of cleverness and sheer brutality, with an illustrious career boasting meeting and even capturing Legendary Pokemon no one had ever seen before, much less captured, even if one of them did escape in the end, while the other was brought back to the base, he was... not as proud or confident as he'd once been.
Paradoxically, for someone who worked in such violent and sordid work, he had maintained an open, warm, and friendly nature, that sometimes disappeared behind explosive anger, with a great deal of internal distance that allowed him to commit acts of violence despite that fact.
But his defenses came down with the loss of his partner. His temper worsened, his friendly manner was largely conceit to make enemies lower their guard, and he'd grown crueler. He couldn't even get along with the friends he'd made, he'd try, but his bad temper had only gotten worse, quick to take a violent turn, and so, others grew distant from him. He half-wondered, eventually, if he wasn't doing it on purpose to avoid having anyone too close he could stand to lose again.
He almost thought he'd make a better agent this way. He might get a reputation of being hard to work with again, but it's fine, he could work solo just fine... and he'd become more ruthless, which, to Team Rocket, was a good thing, so there's that. He joined to make money and it's fine if that's all he does now. Work, get paid, drink, go to sleep. Repeat. There wasn't anything more to it, right now. He just did what he was good at.
He'd been tasked with the capture of another Legendary Pokemon, based on some sighting around this area, he was supposed to investigate and capture if found... There were readings of incredibly high energy readings around this particular area, so he thought he must have found his target. Proceeding towards the location, for the first time in many months, he'd felt something other than gnawing emptiness and a need for distraction. For once, his mind was clear and he felt like there was something of genuine light and beauty in this world. He was fascinated and stayed in his bipedal mecha, entranced behind the glass, and, briefly, forgot his mission and everything else.
An ethereal, beautiful figure in resplendant dress, an otherworldly sight, surrounded by wild Pokemon, she almost looked like a fairy tale princess or some kind of angel... but when she formed a spear of light, he felt frightened and realized, "This can't be human."
Was she a transformed Legendary Pokemon? Maybe it's some kind of trick, some kind of illusion, that he's nearly been brought under the spell of.
And then, she spoke. It didn't appear to be telepathy, the sound was slightly muffled behind the glass, and he saw her mouth move... what kind of Pokemon can do all of that?!
He was growing more and more confused by what she might be... he felt incredibly stupid for doing this, but he brought the glass down, so she could hear him better. If this was a trap, he was still inside, he could still control the mecha, and he could still capture and restrain her.]
[ A fairy tale princess... Now that was a wonderful thought if there ever was one! If she was told she looked just like that, Ereshkigal would nigh instantly swoon. If only that were true... Then surely her charming prince would come riding on his white horse and saved her from her unfair fate!
That was how it usually happened in human romances, at any rate. Books were really her only source of knowledge as to how the human world works... But she knew it wasn't in the cards for her.
What was in the cards instead were those strange creatures...Until she heard a human voice. Was there someone around? She ran to the source of the voice and stopped before the lowered glass. ]
Ah, finally!
[ Is she... Is she sparkling? Yes, yes she is. And she's absolutely unaware of it. That's just something that happens every now and then when she feels really happy. ]
Are you a human of this world?
[thank you!! CW vague suicidal ideation, towards the end]
[Once again, he’s stunned. The scintillating light is so beautiful, he can’t look away, even though, instinctively, he knows he should fear it to be some kind of trap… but the world’s all gotten so dark, dull, and drab for him for so long, he wanted to bask in her light for a little longer…
He actually had to grip at the edges of the cockpit while he stood to see her better… like he might get weak at the knees! It’d be pathetic if he saw it in anyone else. He didn’t want to speak or ruin the moment. Definitely didn’t want to or care about what it was he had to do after, this was… such a comfort to his eyes and spirit.
That sweet voice was addressing him, wasn’t it? His mind finally comprehended the meaning, instead of just treating it like a sweet little song he could hardly hear.]
Uhh… yeah.
[Oh, wow, great first impression! He sounded thick. He sat back down, embarrassed, head down. It took him a moment to bring the machine closer. It had a funny, almost bird-like gait, he lowered the mecha down so he was nearly level with her, although he brought the glass halfway up over the cockpit (when he looked down, the high readings were absolutely focused here—she was the source, alright). She was armed, after all. He wasn’t looking to get stabbed, even if it was—hm, on second thought, not a bad way to go, after witnessing such beauty… it’s not like he had anything else to look forward to…]
[ Now that she could see it in full, Ereshkigal's eyes widened upon seeing the machine in its entirety. What a strange constrict... It wasn't a totally uncommon sight, she knew magi had built some very weird things and the movies Ritsuka had shown her had mechanical constructs even bigger and more dangerous!
This didn't look like something a magi had built though, and seeing how she can't be in a movie... Mhm. It may truly be a different world! Or perhaps a Lostbelt, but she would be able to tell if so.
Regardless, that answer took her aback. ]
A-Are you alright?
[ People usually were super impressed to see a perfect and cool goddess! Well... She thinks they do, she's never actually met enough people to test that theory. Or perhaps he's just nervous like her? If so she can sympathize, but...
... She has no idea how to help! If she did she wouldn't be an anxious mess any more. ]
[He finally did lift his head after a moment, when was fairly certain he looked a bit less, well, embarrassed, but Buson was always a fairly easy read and this was probably the most emotional he'd been in a long time.
So. It's easy to see he looked embarrassed and awkward.]
Sorry. I was just—surprised. Didn't expect a lady to be out here in the middle'a nowhere.
[Well, he shouldn't get too distracted, she wasn't... human, was she? She's probably an illusion or transformation or something.]
What's your name?
[His hands gliding over the controls as he righted himself, before lingering over certain controls. He might be hiding the fact that he intended to trap her.]
[ Oh, is it introduction time? Suddenly, a cold wind start blowing. It sends her hair flying dramatically... Kind of like how you'd see it in a L'Oréal commercial, except here it very much is the real world. ]
I am she who tramples the sacred mountain... [When she speaks, it is in a deeper voice than usual.] Queen of Kûr and Mistress of the Underworld...
[ And lo, she sends her cape flying in a most dramatic fashion as she "reveals" herself. ]
Ereshkigal, Goddess of Death!
[ ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...
T-That was super cool and scary, right? She's spent days before a mirror rehearsing this introduction! Hopefully he's impressed and in awe of her, as one should be when they face a very cool and likeable goddess. Because she's totally cool and likeable, right? Right? She-She's really trying hard here! ]
[CW dehumanization??? + he *still* thinks she's a Pokemon, I'm sorry]
[The sudden wind was creepy, he'd have to admit. He felt a chill run up his spine! He briefly wondered if he was going to die. But as se went on, introducing herself, the shyness from earlier vanised entirely. What took its place was a casual confidence and a sinister, unpleasant smile. So this was sort of transformation or illusion! She's just anoter beast like Raikou or Rayquaza, legend or not, she could be subdued and subjugated.]
Alright, cool.
Godesses of death, gods of thunder, it's all the same.
[Target locked and... fire!
A metallic claw will shoot out towards her to clasp around her. He didn't fire the second, in case she tried to use that sword to cut it. He still didn't know wat the sword could do, if se was likely to drain life from things, he was going to hold off sending is Pokemon out against her unless he absolutely had to.
If she needed furter restraining or disabling, he had other means.]
[ W-What the heck was happening? Why was his machine attacking her? Had she been way too scary and he'd felt compelled to attack her? She'd just wanted to be cool so people would like her, she didn't mean to genuinely terrify him...!
Yet again, he doesn't really sound scared, does he? No, he very much sounds aggressive. Had she fallen for a trap set up by one of those vile humans? Guh... Ishtar would laugh if she saw her like that, wouldn't she?
Also goddess of death is very much better than the god of thunder, thank you very much. ]
W-What are you doing?! [She's not panicking, perish the thought.] Cease this at once or I shall rain divine punishment upon you...!
[ She totally means it. She's not a violent goddess, but she's not going to let some human capture or kill her! ]
[I wonder how long he’ll be under the impression she’s a Pokemon]
[He likely doesn’t know the one you’re thinking of, Ereshkigal! He’s thinking of Raikou.
Surprisingly, he actually stopped the claw, in mid-air, before it could reach her. He watched her with a narrowed gaze.
He isn’t scared, but he’s considering she might need to be depowered first. He was considering other weapons. Just attacking her like that would be dangerous if he didn’t know what kind of moves she could use. But for now…]
Alright, I stopped. How about you stop and actually show your real form, huh?
You’re trying to protect yourself and distract us by making yourself look like a beautiful woman and I ain’t fallin’ for it.
[… he’s a tad bit too blunt and isn’t just… saying that making it clear that’s what his impression of her is too?]
[ W-What had he just said? That goddess turns red and gets a lot more panicked (and angry) because such shameful words cannot be forgiven! ]
H-How dare you! This is my real form...!
[ Yes, she can transform into a huge skeleton-like monstrous form, but that's not her true form! Her human body is! Well, vessel, but that's the same thing! Hmpf! For such an offense, she has to do something. Besides he's still on the verge of capturing her. ]
That's it, I'm not going to hold back! [She brandishes her spear of light and energy stats gathering around it.] F-For your sinful behavior, I shall exact divine punishment upon you!!
[ She's going to use her Noble Phantasm any second now! He better have something to prevent that or it's game over. ]
[awww, man + ya brought this on yourself, Buson... complete disaster]
[Oh, boy, he's got her really mad, maybe he really did offend some kind of deity and not a transformed Pokemon like he thought...???]
Cool it!
[Yeah, the best he could manage right now is setting off an odd little cube-shaped device, tossing it at her, and attempting to flee with a smoke screen his mecha generates.
The cube-shaped device will send out energy to try and bind her limbs so she won't move... it might not be powerful enough to completely disable her, but hey, it should serve as a good distraction for a few seconds while he makes his escape?!]
[ It does bind her limb, but very temporarily so. If he wants to get ahold her, he will have to use the big guns because as the smoke dissipates? The goddess is levitating mid-air, her eyes glowing golden as she stares at the retreating mecha.
She points her golden lance its way: ]
You are not going anywhere!
[ She's pissed.
And also very careful. In spite of appearances, she's considered one of the wisest goddesses of her pantheon. She knows allowing an enemy to flee is ensuring they'll come back even more dangerous.
On the downside, as the one ruling over the Underworld, she is a goddess of the earth. While levitating mid-air? Her powers are severely limited. But she's not a Pokemon, promised! ]

no subject
And maybe he had cheated and watched the alternative ending if people did delete her file and quickly decided that he was not a fan of that route.
That being said maybe his own emotional investment had somehow worn down the walls between the reality and the game. It was as good an explanation as any for him suddenly hearing an all too familiar voice while he was in the kitchen preparing a pretty decently sized lunch.
"W-Wha?" A storm of clattering erupted as he dropped the pan then quickly grabbed it again while all his other tentacles dropped what they were holding in shock because that voice should not sound nearly as real life like as it sounded right now.
no subject
She stood up and dusted off her attire. She had to look her absolute best, he'd never seen her in the flesh after all. It was very different than having to speak and look at a static 2D image all the time. She approached the door and stood right behind it, ready to be the first thing he'd see upon opening it. She closed her eyes and opened her arms wide...
"Honey, I'm hooooome~!"
She would speak upon hearing the door open. Eyes still closed of course, so she certainly was in for a surprise.
no subject
"M-Monika!? It's really you! But how did-!?" Kengo reacted quite normally all things considered. Normally while avoiding several glaring issues. Like why he was just the size of a soccer ball and slithering along the floor with small stubby tentacles for motion and body language given the huge single eye on the center of his body.
no subject
She opened her eyes and noticed there was... No one? Wait, but she was fairly sure the voice had come from just before her? Was she dreamed and she was still in the game...? What was the meaning of this?!
"...?"
And then she looked down and-
"...?!"
What... What was that? A magical girl familiar? A video game mascot? And the voice had come from him...? Clearly he knew who she was. So that could only mean... No, it couldn't be right. This was the real world. Not some weird video game.
"..."
It was... It was... Blink blink.
"... Who-Kengo?"
no subject
No what he felt right now was awkwardness since he was in this form now which no doubt would be anything but what Monika had expected.
"Y-Yeah I am Kengo. I'd say surprise but you already look plenty surprised. Uhm it's nice to see you in the flesh I will admit. Sorry About the truth being a little less perfect on my side of things."
1/2
He was... He was...
2/2
She rushed to him and picked him up, only to give him a big and warm hug. It didn't matter what he looked like! Kengo was Kengo and that was all that mattered.
"I understand why you were playing such a cheesy romance game now... It can't be easy..." It was so sad! His life must have been hard. "But I'm here now, so everything will be alright!"
LOL OMG that reaction XD
Yet she was hugging him now even if under a bit of a misunderstanding but he could elaborate on that a little later. Especially being pulled into her chest like that. He did not want to get too excited and have one of his many limbs act up and ruin everything.
"T-Thanks. I'm uhm really glad to see you made it out. Kinda wish I could have helped more..." This was a little awkward but also so very pleasant. She smelled well very nice as far as he was concerned and her chest was soft and warm and fat too tempting to just nuzzle into. Maybe he would get away with it being cute as he is but he didn't want to take that chance.
she can't help if he's super adorbs
He would argue she's being super adorable~
"Yeah I guess we do. Though is there anything in particular you would like to do or need? I know I came across as pretty smooth in the game but I'm gonna be honest I've uh never...been close to a girl before..." That was so embarrassing to admit but he didn't want to disappoint Monika. Not after all she'd been through.
Re: He would argue she's being super adorable~
"There is something I like and need..." She marked a dramatic pause. "And that's you~!"
She gently took a hold of him once him and brought him to eye level, smiling sweetly.
"But what's happened to you? You clearly weren't born like that..."
Maybe it was like the grand fairy tale classic: the noble hero is transformed into a frog, and he needs a maiden's kiss born from true love to be returned to his true form! If so... Well, that's a bit early for their first kiss really. But if that's to save him, that's a ""sacrifice"" she's willing to make.
no subject
"Yeah that's...another wild story made even wilder by the fact that this didn't happen inside of a game. But to put it simply I went back to school after hours since I forgot something in my desk. On my way to the classroom I noticed a flash of light from one of the classrooms next to mine so I decided to go and take a look. Only to see one of my classmates in the middle of a glowing circle like you'd see in fantasy games.
Last thing I remember was a giant flash of light and then the world went white and when I woke up...I was like this with one princess from a foreign world apologizing to me over and over for getting me caught up in her familiar summoning."
no subject
Something he said caught her attention though, and caused her smile to fade.
"A princess from another world...?"
Is there a delete button in this reality? Now now, Monika would never hurt someone who is actually alive and does exist! But that doesn't mean she doesn't have some serious jealousy issues, as he saw first-hand in the game.
no subject
"There was but she left due to something happening in her homeland. She kept apologizing for not being able to fix my body but I got used to it in the end so it's not that big of a deal." He did not have any particular strong feelings for her either.
"Might be a monstrous body but you couldn't believe how handy it is to be able to grow another limb whenever you need to do something more.
no subject
The jealousy had subsided, but she'd definitely made the delete list had she been a video game character. Seriously... The least she could have done is take responsibility for her mistake!
"I'm not abandoning you." She comforted him but then marked a pause. "G-Grow limbs?"
She looked a bit weirded out. Just a bit. Gosh, it was getting worse and worse by the second. What had that princess done to him? She smiled a bit sadly at him, but kept him close nonetheless. In fact-
"You know, maybe what you need is a maiden's kiss~ Ahaha! Imagine if you suddenly turned into a fairytale prince!"
no subject
"Y-Yeah I can show you if you really want to see. It doesn't hurt in any way for me though they do come out a bit slimy for the first minute or so." Honestly he was too worried about that. Instead he decided to move on with her sudden suggestion.
"Not exactly a frog but I'm not against trying it. Regardless if it works or not." Geting to kiss Monika so soon was making him understandably giddy.
I'm so sorry for the delay, it's been a busy week
"Alrighty~!"
With that said, she stopped hugging him and instead brought him to eye level with her. He looked really adorable like that... But maybe, just maybe the "magic" would work?
"It's my first kiss, you know. I won't do the blushing and prude act I did that one time in the game..." She tilted her head. "But that's still a bit embarrassing, ahaha. So you better close your eyes!"
No worries. I know RL comes first.
His single eye looked at her and somehow managed to appear sheepish since she was so close to his ...body? Face? It was hard to make that distinction with his new body.
"I wish I didn't have to but sure I will." Kengo gave a nod and sure enough closed his eyes for Monika waiting for the feel of her lips to fall on him or his."
no subject
So she smiled and brought him closer and closer to her lips... Before finally placing a gentle and sweet kiss on him. Was that his mouth? She wasn't sure. It didn't really feel like a real kiss since he, well. Couldn't kiss her back. But it was still a first, wasn't it?
After a brief moment she pulled back, smiling sweetly and deviously. Had her charming prince turned back to his real form? If not, that was okay. She'd love him just the way he was!
no subject
"Guess this is one curse that's not so easy to break huh. I'm sorry, Monika..."
no subject
"Why are you sorry? That vile and cruel princess is the one who ought to apologize!"
And she proceeded by hugging him once more.
"I don't love you any less just because you look this way, you know?"
no subject
"I just wish I could give you the welcome you deserve after finally making it out. Though I guess I can start with cooking something up real quick. Having as many arms as you want really helps with efficiency in the kitchen you know." Among other things. He just wanted to point out the benefits of this form so that they could move off of the topic of his curse.
no subject
"Awww." She looked at him and shook her head. "You did give me an amazing welcome."
She held him close against him once more. Right, best not to talk about his curse any more. He was adorable regardless of the form and she couldn't ask for more! He'd showered her with love, wasn't that enough?
"I'm a terrible cook, so that's a positive ahaha! But remember though I'm a vegetarian, so you gotta avoid meat in my meals~"
no subject
"I remember. Stir fry sound good or should I just whip up a queen sized salad instead~"
no subject
She wasn't even mentioning his limbs any more. Nope, she didn't want him to feel bad about it for even a moment! Of course, she'd make research on ways to cure him- If she could cross into the real world, surely he could be cured! But that wasn't because she didn't accept him as he was. It was more out of concern for his safety.
"On my hand, I can probably handle cleaning up things around... Gosh, people are going to wonder where I came from, huh? I probably should get started on making a fake ID, ahaha!"
no subject
"Oh god you're right. I don't have any kind of connections that could help with that either." that was troubling since getting fake documents would involve interacting with elements of the underworld and frankly he would rather not see Monika do that. Not because he didn't trust he but because he wanted to keep her safe from the uglier aspects of reality.
no subject
Lo, his worst fears are immediately materialized. As if a few Yakuza scared her! Well, she wouldn't have to go that far. But she was pretty good at hacking and in modern times, that was an invaluable skill, right?
"I can probably hack into governmental database and set something up for myself. If not, I'll just get in touch with people who can forge IDs and buy their services with my hacking skills."
It's unclear whether she's naive or determined. Probably a mixture of both.
no subject
"H-Hacking skills? Are you sure? what if you get caught!" After all hacking into government databases is different from hacking an indie game. At least that's what he thought if one were to think logically.
@goldandsilver
[it's totally fine, sorry for novel and the delay on my end, it came while I was at work]
Paradoxically, for someone who worked in such violent and sordid work, he had maintained an open, warm, and friendly nature, that sometimes disappeared behind explosive anger, with a great deal of internal distance that allowed him to commit acts of violence despite that fact.
Right here!
no worries, there's no rush!

no subject
1/3
I am she who tramples the sacred mountain... [When she speaks, it is in a deeper voice than usual.] Queen of Kûr and Mistress of the Underworld...
2/3
Gods and men alike fear me, for all paths lead to me...
3/3
Ereshkigal, Goddess of Death!
[ ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...
T-That was super cool and scary, right? She's spent days before a mirror rehearsing this introduction! Hopefully he's impressed and in awe of her, as one should be when they face a very cool and likeable goddess. Because she's totally cool and likeable, right? Right? She-She's really trying hard here! ]
[CW dehumanization??? + he *still* thinks she's a Pokemon, I'm sorry]
We'll conquer you all.
You're coming with me!
sniff sniff
Surprisingly, he actually stopped the claw, in mid-air, before it could reach her. He watched her with a narrowed gaze.
He isn’t scared, but he’s considering she might need to be depowered first. He was considering other weapons. Just attacking her like that would be dangerous if he didn’t know what kind of moves she could use. But for now…]
Alright, I stopped. How about you stop and actually show your real form, huh?
You’re trying to protect yourself and distract us by making yourself look like a beautiful woman and I ain’t fallin’ for it.
[… he’s a tad bit too blunt and isn’t just… saying that making it clear that’s what his impression of her is too?]
no subject
Cool it!
[Yeah, the best he could manage right now is setting off an odd little cube-shaped device, tossing it at her, and attempting to flee with a smoke screen his mecha generates.
The cube-shaped device will send out energy to try and bind her limbs so she won't move... it might not be powerful enough to completely disable her, but hey, it should serve as a good distraction for a few seconds while he makes his escape?!]
alas...!
